Configure who can start new topics

You can restrict who can start new topics in a channel. For example, you can set up:

  • A channel where only some users can post new announcements, but everyone can discuss them.
  • A channel with just a handful of topics everyone is expected to use.
  • A channel for mirroring another messaging app, where each topic corresponds to a channel in the other app.
  1. Click on the gear () icon in the upper right corner of the web or desktop app.
  2. Select Channel settings.
  3. Click All in the upper left.
  4. Select a channel.
  5. Select the Permissions tab on the right.
  6. Under Messaging permissions, configure Who can start new topics.
  7. Click Save changes.
